The XML Highway Server is a sophisticated and powerful processing engine combined with an efficient dynamic database for fast retrieval of XML based business documents. Built on open Internet standards, the XML Highway Server provides:

Powerful Processing Engine; ensuring secure transmission, validation and     transformation of electronic business documents.

Dynamic Database; incorporating sophisticated indexing technology for efficient     handling of document archiving and retrieval.
URL-based access and administrative     functionality via standard web browsers.

Powerful Processing Engine

Electronic business documents arrive over the Internet from Quantum VS XML Highway Users in a range of formats, including EDI, XML or other user-defined formats (UDFs). Once received, the XML Highway Server processes these documents for delivery or collection by another trading partner. Part of this process involves involves carrying out a series of checks to establish if a document is valid and identification as to how it is to be processed, before delivery or collection by a trading partner.

1) Recognition:
Upon receipt of a document, the XML Highway Server performs a recognition check to establish if the document sent can be processed. If the document passes the recognition check, it is then processed as defined by the active trading partner (person who sets up the trading relationship). If the document fails the rcognition check, it is rejected and returned, along with a notification with details as to why it has failed to be processed

2) Transformation:
The XML Highway transforms electronic business documents it receives, changing the data content into any message format (XML, EDI, CSV & Text-file) and file format (Order, Invoice, Order Acknowledgement, Price Update...) that meets the trading partners' specification.

For those receiving the document, who cannot make use of it electronically, a stylesheet may be associated with the document during its processing, in order that the document may be preveiwed in a browser and then printed out if required.

3) Validation:
Further validation checks (applicable only to XML documents) reduces the likelihood of incorrect data being processed

4) Dynamic Database Update:
As the document is processed, the tracking information and user activity log is updated in the database. The document is now ready for collection or can be delivered to the recipient.

Dynamic Database

The XML Highway Server's dynamic database is responsible for indexing documents for archiving and retrieval purposes. It also stores a combination of dynamic information (proccesing requests) and static information (members details, user activity, document tracking, historical analysis, etc).

Static information provides administrative functionality allowing members to administer their electonic trading partnerships over the Internet via standard web browsers.
